Default Secondary Class?

From what I've found it seems like Mesmers are the ultimate secondary class. I've always like the idea of a Mesmer as a main class seeing as the armor kicks ass and all that stuff. What do you guys think is the best Mesmer build, doesnt matter the secondary class, I'd like to make one, but I'm trying to find out if it's worth it

I have seen a lot of Me/N, and I have also seen some Me/W, It just depends on what you want to do with them, A friend of mine created a Me/E and used high + energy weapsns and was able to fast cast fire magic skills, they also used inspiration magic for energy gain

For the most part, I play as Me/Mo since I like to stay alive and have found that Ether Feast doesn't do the best job of that (needs a shorter reset to be truely useful IMO). Me/N can be fun, through I really only use them in PvP to Plague Touch Sig of Midnight. Besides that I may go Me/W if I want to run IW. Me/E can cause problems as (Stone/Shock/Flare/Ice)way, too. I guess it just really depends on what you want to do in the game.

My first character was a mesmer and I didn't like it. After playing other professions, I went back and created a mesmer and I'm glad that I gave this profession a second chance.

I think mesmers are great. My character is a Me/Mo focusing on Domination, and I only use 2 Monk skills as Ether Feast for healing is very poor, and it's better to be able to rez more than once.

One thing that I found about the mesmer is that most of the damage they can do is conditional, and when done correctly they can cause alot of damage. For example,

1. Backfire a spell caster, and if they carelessly cast a spell they'll suffer damage.
2. Spell caster cast a spell, use Power Spike to interrupt the casting and they'll suffer damage.
3. Someone use a skill, interrupt them (and their nearby buddies) with Cry of Frustration and they'll suffer damage.
4. Someone attacks, then use Empathy. And for every attack made, they'll suffer damage. The damage adds up quite quickly for those who don't stop attacking.

These are just some of the things from the Domination line on their own. Some skills work well with another. For example,

(Domination Spells Only: )
1. Throw Wastrel's Worry on someone. If they don't remove it (within 3 seconds) by using a skill then they suffer damage. They're also nicely setup for Cry of Frustration.
2. Throw Empathy on an attacker, let them take some damage. If they stop attacking, then use Shatter Delusion and they'll suffer damage when the Empathy hex is removed.

(Inspiration and Domination Spells: )
3. Throw Mind Wrack on an attacker with low energy storage (e.g. warrior), then Spirit Shackles. On every attack they make, they lose energy, once it hits zero then they suffer damage from MW. If they continue attacking and their energy recovery is poor, it'll drop to zero again and MW hits again. You can even help by using another energy stealing spell like Energy Burn that takes energy and cause damage.

In a party, Mesmers can also double team with other professions. For example, throw Fragility on a foe. Have a Ranger poison that foe and a Warrior bleed it. Fragility will cause that foe to suffer damage for each condition. If the foe is in a mob, then throw in Epidemic to pass the conditions to their buddies too. When the intial foe recovers from both conditions they may suffer damage from Fragility again.

Those are just a handful of somethings a mesmer can do, and I haven't used the Illusion line either. I do have more fun playing my mersmer than my other characters. Most players underestimate the abilities of the mesmers, it's only when you have played one then you really know what they are capable of.

The only way you'll know if it's worth having a primary mesmer is to give it a go.

Mesmers FTW.
